Job Description

The Estimator will be responsible for providing details (takeoffs) for each proposal issued to them by the Estimating Manager. The Estimator will review each customer RFQ and organize for proper and prompt proposal preparation, using standard forms and methods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review the RFQ to understand its intent, requirements, details, timing and scope.
  • Understand the manner to which the Owner needs it presented.
  • Walk and review the jobsite conditions.
  • Creates as detailed as possible take-offs for the equipment and all ancillary devices shown, specified or needed based on the scope and overall conveyor knowledge.
  • Contacts sub-contractors for bids scope of supply not facilitated as required.
  • Prepares bid packs for the sub-contractors when necessary.
  • Continually review all customer general specifications and standards to ensure compliance.
  • Get pricing on purchased equipment and fabricated items, as necessary.
  • Adds costs to each line item in the estimate.
  • Ensures that all items of work are included.
  • Review subcontractor’s proposal for content, price and clarifications and include a matrix of rank.
  • Consider cost savings or value-added alternates.
  • Review any engineering or feasibility considerations.
  • Serves as backup and assists Estimating Assistant in preparing final quote and documents to submit to the customer as required. Detail and clarifications are critical.
  • The intent is to estimate the anticipated cost of any said project as accurately as possible.
  • Review, check, review and check again.
  • Establish a plan for the timing and getting the SOW accomplished.
  • Review the quote with the Estimating Manager.
  • Review the quote with management, as required.
  • Work with engineering and operations as necessary to get the quote effected.
  • Provide critical as sold information, job kickoff and setup for job budget.
  • Provide job field order and/or change order estimates as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Conveyor knowledge of all design and build conveyor types including Power and Free, Skid, Skillet, Pallet, Monorails, EMS, CDLR, Towveyor, Fork Transfers, VDLs and special Design/Build Applications. Knowledge of conveyor support systems and safety requirements is also required. Should know how these conveyors function as well as their capabilities and limitations. Must have capability to calculate conveyor loads, production rates, cycle times, clearances required, etc.
  • Must be intimately familiar with each customer’s safety requirements for design and construction as well as OSHA, Canadian safety requirements and internal safety requirements.
  • Minimum 10 yrs. experience with automotive assembly plant conveyors, in either installation, design or project management. A working knowledge of the installation process is required. Ability to formulate CPM schedule is a plus.
  • AutoCAD – at minimum, must be able to use for reading, plotting and dimensioning.
  • Proficient with MS Word and Project. Excellent proficient with Excel required.
  • Requires some travel, including overnight and out of country to attend bid meeting and review job sites.
  • Detail oriented and organizational skills are a must.
  • Work well in fast paced, time sensitive dead line requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage company expectations & customer interactions and expectations from pre-bid to project completion.
  • Create and maintain project budget, timeline, phase date requirements and completion date.
  • Assure proper permits, leases, insurance and client requirements are met on jobsite.
  • Monitor and control project with on-site Superintendent to ensure project is on schedule and budget.
  • Establish engineering and manufacturing priorities to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Coordinate with Engineering department regarding any job questions or potential design modifications.
  • Conduct regular communication with Sales and Home office regarding project status.
  • Manage equipment suppliers and subcontractors from kickoff to installation including project schedule and budget to ensure smooth introduction.
  • Approve and code job invoices and submit timely to Accounts Payable.
  • Formulate written and verbal reports concerning areas of work progress, scheduling and costs.
  • Ability to meet demanding schedule and tight deadlines while ensuring highest level of safety and quality.
  • Ability to handle onsite logistics and some minor purchasing responsibilities.
  • Interface regularly with customers, subcontractors and project team effectively and timely.
  • Willing to work long hours for extended periods of time when job requires.
  • Willing to travel with short and advance notice to job sites.
  • Able to perform field verification of drawings
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Distributing, filing and maintaining design documents, specifications, submittals, procedures, instructions, and vendor/supplier information.
  • Interpreting drawings, specifications and technical requirements as required for field personnel.
  • Reviewing design and budget documents for completeness and constructability
  • Coordinating with Engineering regarding design modifications, as appropriate to accommodate improved cost effectiveness of construction.
  • Respond to requests for information, non-conformance reports, and field instructions.
  • Actively managing job costs to budget on each job or perspective job from pre-bid to job completion.
  • Expeditious resolution of any job manpower, supply or other job issue.
  • Receive and seek information from other project departments for planning, scheduling, and controlling the project in accordance with overall project objectives and budget.
  • Assure procurement activities including subcontractor/vendor bid packages and documents to support the bid process.
  • Set and conduct pre-bid and job meetings; take or assign meeting minutes and follow up as needed.
  • Organizing and coordinating turnover, procurement and start-up operations, and ensuring that these functions are performed as required on the project.
  • Coordinating with the client representatives to ensure compliance with job requirements and specifications.
  • Reviewing work priorities with Client to ensure all projects are aligned with Client expectations.
  • Complete all required job paperwork timely.
